Motorola Devour versus Motorola Droid

Motorola is home to many great phones. As we do phone comparisons here, it is only possible for us to have to compare a Motorola phone against another Motorola phone — just like we did with Motorola Devour and Motorola Cliq XT. Now, we move on to check out the clash between Motorola Devour and Motorola Droid.

Motorola Devour versus Motorola DroidThe Droid was launched in November of 2009 and runs Android 2.0. The Devour, on the other hand, was released in March of this year and runs Android 1.6. The Droid packs a 550-MHz Arm Cortex A8 processor with 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM while the Devour has a 600-MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 with 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM.

The Motorola Droid has a 3.7-in. WVGA 480×854 resolution display while the Motorola Devour has a 3.1-inch HGVA 320×480 resolution screen. Users who often check out videos, games and images as well as those fond of browsing the Web using their phones will find the extra inches and better resolution very useful. Both phones have a capacitive touchscreen display.

Both devices have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but the Droid’s keys are flat while the Devour’s keys are raised providing a better feel. The Droid comes with a 5-MP autofocus camera with digital zoom and flash while the Devour features a 3-MP fixed-focus camera without flash and digital zoom.

The Motorola Devour may prove to be better for those heavy in social networking while the Motorola Droid may go better for those seeking power, speed, high resolution and bigger screen.

Denise New, found guilty of misdemeanour harassment, was ordered by Judge Randy Hill to pay a $435 fine and complete anger management and parenting classes, according to report by The Associated Press. This happened after New locked her 17-year-old son, Lane, out of his own Facebook account and posted crude remarks on it. Lane forgot to properly log out from Facebook, an opportunity taken by his mom to control the account by changing its password.

FacebookBoth mother and son have admitted that they once had a good relationship. Lane has stayed with his grandmother since 5 years ago, after New went through a rough divorce. Just this spring, Lane visited his mom, who has asked him to return a key to her home. He refused and New denied her son entry to the house to get some personal belongings.

Judge Hill says he will consider allowing New to see her son after she completed her anger management and parenting classes.

What’s so special about this chair other than its cool look? The Industrial Upholstery Chair’s name says it all. The upholstery that makes it so fun to look at, is actually part of this chair’s structure.

The Industrial Upholstery Chair is the work of designer Gilli Kuchik. Inspired to do something new with upholstery, Kuchik created this unique chair by injected polyurethane into the fabric, adding to the shape and structure of the chair. See more here.

A U.S. District Court in Portland, Oregon ordered Google to make and turn over 2 copies of a hard drive containing data collected by Google’s Street View cars from the United States.

Google Street ViewGoogle set out its Street View cars roaming around neighborhoods throughout the world to collect data for its mapping service. This has led to an escalating legal problem for Google, who admitted that the Street View cameras were able to collect data from unsecured private WiFi networks in neighborhoods where their cars passed by. The company asserts, though, that the payload data (web surfing data or email content transmitted) collected have not been used.

However, people are not totally convinced that Google must be simply freed of its obligations following this incident, which may be taken as a huge violation of US privacy laws. Lawsuits have been filed in Washington D.C., California, Massachusetts and Oregon.

Google’s cars have been roaming around different countries for several years, and countries such as Germany, Spain, France and the Czech Republic are also working on their own investigations. Germany and Hong Kong have asked access to the information collected by the Street View cars. Germany gave Google a May 26 deadline while Hong Kong gave a May 24 deadline, both of which Google missed. Google asserted that while the company is willing to cooperate in the investigations, it cannot simply grant other entities access to the collected Wi-Fi data due to legal implications, and may need time to review the legal and logistical processes involved.

Testing the Limits of Matter

matter

Yup, this is one interesting exhibit. This series is the work of design students from Venice and San Marino. The key ingredients are bread, rice, and licorice. Not materials you expect to find in a chair.

While this chair is one I probably wouldn’t want to sit in, it is pretty intriguing nonetheless. This series was designed to research what the limits of matter are, and the energy, chemical processes, and results would be it would lead to. What do you think?

If you need reliable portable document scanners, then here are two devices you would want to get a closer look at — the Visioneer Strobe 500 and the PlanOn DocuPen Xtreme X05. A portable document scanner allows business travelers to manage receipts, business cards, and any other documents they need to have a digital copy of.

portable document scannersThe Visioneer Strobe 500 comes with a docking station, and so it is primarily used as a desktop unit. Take it off the docks and you can enjoy its portability. PlanOn DocuPen Xtreme X05, on the other hand, has  a name that suggests that it is a pen scanner although tech experts would say it’s not quite it. Pen scanners sweep a page one line after another while the DocuPen Xtreme X05 allows you to scan an entire page in one sweep.

Without the docks, the Visioneer Strobe 500 measures 2.8-in x 11.7-in x 3.3-in and weighs 2.2 lbs. This is relatively bigger and heavier than most portable scanners, but its speed and ability to scan both sides of a page make the extra baggage worth it. The DocuPen Xtreme X05 is advertised as pen-sized, although it actually is slightly larger than a pen or even a highlighter (which is what most portable scanners look like).

In terms of output quality, both the Strobe 500 and the DocuPen Xtreme X05 provide reliable, fast and high quality scans. Strobe 500 usually sells for $400 while the DocuPen Xtreme X05 for $370.
